Cat-5 Video Assist Kit

This inexpensive system is a great new way to send and receive Video Assist signals - two video and two audio - using a single CAT-5 Ethernet cable! This system uses (2) small connection boxes into which the Video and Audio signals are fed and received. The distance between the sound cart video assist is traveled using a single CAT-5 cable creating less "set clutter" and lower maintenance for the sound department. Any CAT5 cable can be used, but the cable in this kit is a flexible stranded type that lays flat and can be coiled like a mic cable.

Video Assist has become a vital part of the Sound Department’s equipment. We use it to help keep the boom out of frame, take cues for playback, cue microphones, mixing for camera perspective, and look for signs of hidden lav mics. We even use it to help keep an eye on the set when we are parked out of the way.

We like to power the monitors with 12VDC and give them signals from devices using professional connectors. But we don’t need it for checking focus or making lighting judgments.That’s why Remote Audio has packaged a Video Assist monitor specifically with the Sound Department in mind, at a price affordable enough to get one for the “A camera” and one for the “B camera”. You get what you want without buying more than you need.The TFT LCD screen is sharp enough to see faint boom shadows and bright enough for daytime exterior work. All connections are on the right side (the back is free of connectors) which means it can be Velcroed directly to a carpeted surface. The included input and power cables use right-angled connectors, making for a very compact and tidy system. These cables terminate to professional 3-pin XLR female (audio input), BNC (video in), and 4-pin XLR male (12V power input).The bottom of the monitor is threaded (standard camera tripod threads) to accept the included mounting stand or other available mounts. Its 7 inch screen can switch between TV standard 4:3 and wide 16:9 aspect ratios. The sturdy packaging has a hinged magnetic flap and is designed to be reused for storage.
